MAKKAH: There are reports that some 8,230 Saudis from 2,358 families are stranded in at least 32 countries due to visa and other issues relating to valid documents.

It was revealed by Tawfiq Abdulaziz Al-Suwailem, chairman of the Saudi Charitable Society for the Welfare of the Saudi Families Abroad (Awasser).

He told local daily Al-Madina that most of the Saudis are stranded in Kuwait, Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Bahrain, with majority of children.

He said the issue was created by Saudi man who married foreign women. He assured that Saudi Interior Ministry is taking necessary actions to help citizens.

But to finalise any case, the governorate will summon father of the affected children.

“The majority of Saudis have recognized their children but punitive measures will be taken against those who refuse to do so,” he said.

As many as 28 families consisting of 60 members have been repatriated and are now living in the Kingdom as normal Saudi citizens, Suwailem said.

Saudi authorities can be contacted through website or through email [email protected] or FAX 00966 1124 02349.
