NEW YORK: The family dispute further intensified as boxer Amir Khan’s wife hit back at her in-laws claiming that she was “bullied physically and mentally” in her own home.

The mother-of-one, claims that her husband Amir is supportive of her decision to speak out, claims that she was slapped and had a remote control thrown at her in explosive fights at the family home.

Amir and Faryal married in 2013 and now share two-year-old daughter Lamaisah, together and following their lavish wedding the New Yorker moved to live with his family in Bolton.

But things turned sour as Faryal joined his mum Falak, dad Shah, brother Haroon, 25, and sister Mariyah, 19.

Following Faryal’s decision to speak out on social media last week, she has since spoken to The Sun on Sunday.

“I never felt I could do anything right. I was bullied physically and mentally,” she said.

“One day I said, ‘Enough of this s***, I’m going to speak up. I’ve had it for three years and that’s enough’.’”

Faryal claims that her husband has supported her and stood up to his family members: “My husband feels like a man now. He’s much happier and so am I.”

She added that the former world champion wanted to “keep the peace”.

The model struggled with the move to the small northern town and immediately felt that the attitudes and expectations were different.

“There, they think you are a bad Muslim if you show a bit of skin. I felt like I didn’t fit in,” she said.

Amir’s wife violently clashed with his siblings, as she claimed that she was assaulted in the family home and tried to appear to his parents but was ignored.

“When I went to do laundry on the other side of the house, his eldest sister Tabinda slammed the door on me,” she said.

“I said to Amir’s mum, ‘Is this fair? Tell your daughter this is wrong’. But she just brushed away my words.

“Tabinda hit me and she threw a remote at me, which missed. Mariyah cropped me out of family photographs, which was hurtful, and has said nasty things about me.”

Following a number of incidents, one of which Faryal claims that her bedroom locks were changed by his parents so they could have access, she threatened to call the cops over the alleged abuse but feared they would pressurise the athlete to split.

“When the locks got changed and when my sister-in-law threw the remote, I did say that. But I was scared his parents would convince Amir to divorce me if I called the police,” she explained.

Faryal, who joined her husband in New York on Friday to promote his charity, said that despite their loved-up image she was “miserable” and “depressed” because of her treatment at home and said that her husband didn’t realise what she was going through.

As the eldest son in the family, the pressure is there to provide for his family and Amir recently bought his parents a new house. But Faryal claims that if he gave his wife a gift he would have to do the same for the women in his family.

“I salute myself for sticking around but I’m American and one day I said, ‘Enough of this s***, I’m going to speak up’,” she said.

“I wish for Amir’s sake we could get on. It’s ironic that his parents didn’t want him to slip out of their hands. Now he’s slipped out of them completely.”

The model also added that while she has received criticism for speaking out, she hopes that she can be an example for “bullied” Muslim women as her “burden has been lifted”.

“I think there are millions of girls who have to live like slaves at home and not have lives of their own. I got bullied but no longer,” she said.

Khan’s family have denied the allegations and his siblings have also taken to social media. His sister responded to the assault allegations saying: “Do I look like I can beat someone up?”
