Hum Films’ Mah-e-Mir earned a new honour at the Guam International Film Festival yesterday.


Mah-e-Mir is a 2016 Pakistani film. It is a biographical film which is directed by Anjum Shahzad, produced by Khurram Rana, Sahir Rasheed, Badar Ikram and written by Sarmad Sehbai. The movie revolves around the life of the famous poet Mir Taqi Mir. Role of Mir Taqi Mir is played by Fahad Mustafa in the movie.

The film cast includes:

  • Fahad Mustafa as Jamal/Mir
  • Iman Ali as Mahtab
  • Sanam Saeed as Naina Kanwal
  • Manzar Sehbai as Dr. Kareem
  • Alyy Khan as Nawab Saha

Mah-e-Mir’s story focuses on the life of a modern day poet named Jamal going through a rough patch. The movie tries to run simultaneously between Jamal’s and Mir Taqi Mir’s life with the story swapping from present day to Jamal’s mind as he imagines himself to be Mir Taqi Mir in Lucknow focusing on the trials and tribulations that Mir once experienced.


The drama film, inspired and focused by the famed madness of 18th century Urdu poet Mir Taqi Mir, was awarded the Best Narrative Film Award at the festival taking place in Guam. Guam is a small island located in the western Pacific Ocean. After a special screening of the film, Director of the film Anjum Shehzad was present to receive the award. Mah-e-Mir was screened as a part of the official selection amidst 60 films. Other than this, the film has also been selected as Pakistan’s official submission for consideration in the Best Foreign Language Film Award category at the 89th Academy Awards.
