ISLAMABAD: After days of speculations, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has finally appointed Lieutenant General Qamar Javed Bajwa as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) who will replace General Raheel Sharif.

Also, Lieutenant General Zubair Mahmood Hayat has also been appointed as new Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) to replace General Rashad.

Both the Lieutenant Generals have been promoted as four star generals. It was confirmed by Prime Minister House spokesman Musaddiq Malik.

“I congratulate General Qamar Javed Bajwa for his appointment as Chief of the Army Staff,” Malik said, admitting that the appointment of new army chief was a difficult decision.

A notification in this regard has been issued.

The spokesman also paid tributes to the outgoing army chief General Raheel Sharif for leading armed forces with valour and wisdom.
