LAHORE: Senior Pakistan People’s Party leader Jahangir Badar passed away due to cardiac arrest in Lahore late on Sunday.
According to family sources, he was rushed to a hospital but could not survive the heart attack. He was also a kidney patient.
Beginning life in Lahore, Jahangir Badar spent an eventful life. He was brought up in Lahore and departed for the eternal world from the same city.
Jahangir Badar became a member National Assembly from Lahore in 1988.
Several political leaders especially Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) figures including co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari paid rich tribute to Jahangir Badar over his services in national politics.
President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif have expressed heartfelt condolences.
Paying rich tributes to the services of the late politician, the President said the contributions of late Jahangir Badar towards strengthening of democracy in the country would always be remembered. He prayed for the departed soul to rest an eternal peace and tranquility.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his condolence message paid rich tribute to political struggle. He said Jahangir Badar was a great political asset who believed and worked for the promotion of democratic norms in our country.
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of PPP leader.
Chairman Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-Chairman of the party, Asif Ali Zardari have also paid rich tribute to political struggle waged by the late PPP leader.
They in their separate messages paid eulogized the political struggle, which he had fought for the promotion of political struggle in the country.
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Siraj-ul-Haq and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leader Dr. Farooq Sattar and others also condoled with the bereaved family.
Bakhtawar Bhutto and Asifa Bhutto said Badar never flinched back vis-à-vis dictatorship.
His funeral prayer was offered at the Punjab University Law College Ground.
Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Opposition Leader National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, Punjab Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, former prime ministers Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Provincial Ministers Rana Mashhood, Ch Abdul Ghafoor, Zaeem Qadri, PPP senior leaders Aitezaz Ahsan, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Manzoor Ahmed Watto, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Nisar Khurho, Manzoor Wassan, Javed Hashmi, Ch Sarwar, Khursheed Mahmood Qasuri and a large number of political, social and civil society personalities attended the funeral prayer.
