YDA Continues Protest in Lahore

LAHORE: A minor girl lost her life in Lahore’s Mayo hospital amid protest by the Young Doctors Association (YDA) continued for the third day despite government’s warning.

According to our correspondent, the girl Sana, belonging to a Pashtun family from tribal areas, was brought to the Mayo hospital’s emergency ward with minor burn injuries two week ago.

After initial treatment, she was shifted to the hospital’s general ward; however, she was not provided with further treatment due to the ongoing protest of doctors.

Her parents told said that they waited for treatment for about 13 days, resultantly, the injury became cancer. They said the doctors asked them to seek treatment somewhere else as they were not willing to resume their duties.

Due to the apathy of so-called messiahs, the girl breathed her last in the hospital today, the second death in two days.

“They are killers and not doctors,” tearful uncle of the girl standing near the body told reporters.

Yesterday, a cardiac patient died outside the emergency ward of the Mayo Hospital when young doctors protesting there allegedly denied him entry. They turned violent when the institute’s administration made arrangements to reopen the outpatient department (OPD) by deputing senior medics. Protesting activists of the YDA had stopped work at the emergency at around 11am following a clash with a deputy medical superintendent over reopening of the OPD.A faction of the young doctors seeking restoration of a post-graduate trainee continued their protest today outside Chief Minister House, blocking the Mall Road, creating severe traffic mess in the city. They are still unwilling to end their protest, calling upon the Chief Minister to accept their demands. On the other hand, Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique claims that the protesting doctors are not YDA representatives. He also claimed that many of the medics have started resuming their duties. “The problem will be resolved in couple of days, we have issued them notices, they are tendering apology and coming back,”
